Do I have a chip socket in my early 1985 DME?      How do I find out?

 You Have to Look Inside.....

Inspection Procedure - Early Porsche 944 DME logic boards [1982-85]

  1. To determine if the DME is socketed for removable chips....you have to look inside
Both versions of DMEs will look the same from the outside.

  2. Remove the DME's back cover by removing the 4 Phillips head screws.

  3. Remove the Logic Board for inspection.  Remove the 2 Phillips head screws and the 2 flat head screws.

  4. Compare your Logic Board against the two pictures below.

  5. Reassemble in reverse order.

Although the two DME versions have different types of memory chips, the programming is the same for both. Both DME versions function the same. The part numbers are the same on both DMEs since there is no functional differences between the two DME versions..
